Word Wisdom
Words are the basis of communication. Whether we speak, write or "sign" them, words are how we communicate. For communication to be successful we must all use the same definition for each word. If we don't we are not communicating, we are merely waving or acknowledging each other. Sad but true, many people go through life never having the pleasure of true communication.
"A picture is worth a thousand words." is only valid if you have the thousand words to describe it to yourself or to others. The more words at your disposal the better you can communicate. Graphics and pictures are great, but they are only pretty pictures to those without words to describe them.
"Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me." is another fallacy that we teach our youngsters. The truth is that words are very powerful and can be extremely devastating to the recipient of taunts, negative criticism, curses, etc. Many a child's, teenager's or adult's ego has been destroyed by these types of words.
Praise and positive comments, on the other hand, have encouraged many youngsters and adults to feel better about themselves and go on to be very successful in their lives and careers.
